Call For Papers

We welcome suggestions of potential contributors whom we may invite to take part in the Parallel Working Sessions during this conference.

As the conference is aimed mainly at Vice-Chancellors, Presidents, Rectors and their senior management team members, we expect that a number will themselves wish to make contributions.

We also expect, however, that they will wish other practitioners and experts within their universities to attend the conference and make presentations and we invite such nominations via the Vice-Chancellor.

We welcome proposals not only from within universities but also from other specialists and experts.

Please use the form to register an interest in making a presentation. We expect there to be more requests than we can accommodate and so an early return of this form is advisable and by 15th February 2010 at the latest.

The Conference Theme and Strands

The Millennium Development Goals are measures of the progress the world is making towards a more just, equitable and secure society.  Universities throughout the Commonwealth play a pivotal role in ensuring progress towards all of these Goals.  This conference provides an opportunity for Universities to help make these contributions better known, to share experiences and to renew their commitment to making the world a better place for the next generation.

We invite proposals for contributions to the seven planned breakout themes, each of which is linked to one or more of the Goals:

  1. The reduction of poverty
  2. The elimination of hunger
  3. Demography (particularly population growth)
  4. Gender equality
  5. Health (especially but not exclusively control of infectious disease and child and maternal health)
  6. Sustainability
  7. Education

The breakout sessions will be of one and a half hours duration and we plan for a panel of three experts each making a short (15 minute) presentation, leaving time for discussion.  We expect each breakout to attract between 50 and 100 participants.
